Lock Down Photo Challenge - #4

Lighten up your Life!

The word PHOTOGRAPHY actually means ‘drawing with light’.

Look outside.
Where is the natural light today? Is the sun casting shadows on the ground or on a wall?
is the light strong? or is it soft?
put your hand in front of you in the sun. Where is the shadow of your fingers?
What happens when you move your hand around? What happens to the shadow?

Look inside.

What artificial light can you find around your home?
lamps? overhead lights? torches? screens?
what light do they cast on the things around them?

Check out these photos taken with artificial light just in my own home!

You can make photos just like these!
Watch this video to find out how I made them ⬇️⬇️⬇️

CHALLENGE!

It’s your turn!!!!

Your mission is to challenge yourself by taking a photo of your subject in a completely different light to what you usually use. Try to create a completely different look for each of your photos.

Once you have done this! Choose 3 of your favourite photos and ask a parent/carer to upload them to our Facebook page in the comments under today’s challenge so I can see what you have created!

Make sure they type your first name and age: eg. Photographer - Jack (8yo).

HAVE FUN!!!!

I WANT MORE! (Extension)

Extension Activities

1.Once you have photographed your subject in one lighting set up, challenge yourself again and change it up!

Then Change it again!

Then again!

IN FACT, Photograph the same subject using 10 different lighting ideas!

That’s right - your extension activity is to do the same challenge but you have to keep changing it, trying something new and being creative.

…and when you get stuck you will need to use your imagination and try a different location, or turn your subject around so they are lit from behind or the side.

Think outside the square and challenge yourself!

If it’s not working or doesn’t look good, ask your self what you can change to fix it!
